Proof of How Powerful Design Can Be.

We watched this video recently and were touched by the story, the movement and the cause to end the LRA conflict in Uganda. Besides from this powerful cause, we saw how design made an impact on igniting a change for good - by educating, informing and sharing what is happening in Uganda with the entire world. Check it out.

Via Fast Company:

A little-known American charity dedicated to helping victims of African conflict has scored a public relations coup. Invisible Children’s new 30-minute Kony 2012 video, directed by Jason Russell, has been viewed over 440,000 times since being placed on YouTube on March 5. The film is intended to raise public awareness of the devastating Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) conflict in Uganda; Fast Company has written previously about the LRA’s routine use of child labor and rape.

So far, the campaign has managed to get more than 4 million total views across the web in a little more than 48 hours. The documentary focuses on Joseph Kony, the LRA leader responsible for years of violent atrocities in Uganda and nearby countries. According to Invisible Children, the film and a related campaign “aims to make Joseph Kony famous, not to celebrate him, but to raise support for his arrest and set a precedent for international justice.” Invisible Children has been canny about marketing the film through social media via the use of Twitter hashtags (#kony2012) and celebrities. Rihanna, Stephen Fry, and The Onion’sBaratunde Thurston have all tweeted about the film. In addition, Invisible Children is organizing a celebrity pressure campaign to get, among others, Oprah Winfrey, Mark Zuckerberg, and Lady Gaga to publicize #kony2012.

Green Room Goodies!

Phew! It’s already week 9 and you’re probably getting ready to produce your final projects for the term. Here are some quick tips from the Green Room on how to make sure your production phase goes as smoothly as possible!

Green Room Hours & Who’s Werkin’

Monday: 8:30AM-4PM (Vy, Emily & Debbie)
Tuesday: 10:30AM-6PM (Emily & Tina)
Wednesday: 8:30AM-6PM (Vy, Emily & Debbie)
Thursday: 10:30AM-8:30PM (Emily & Tom)
Friday: 9AM-1PM, 2PM-7PM (Debbie & Tom)

Printing Tips

Give yourself PLENTY of time to print!
During finals, there could be a line to print on the laser printer and the inkjet.

Make sure you have print credits.
Pick up a form in the green room, and add credit at the Cashier’s office in Neuberger.Bring the form back and we’ll take care of you.

Set up your file the way you want it printed
Package your file if needed, set up crop marks, and save as PDF if you would like it printed on the Epson Inkjet. This will help make the printing process much faster!

About the new laser printer:

1. YES, it’s awesome! Prints color very well.
2. It prints two sizes, letter and tabloid.
3. Save your file directly on the desktop before printing. Don’t print directly off of your jump drive, the printer won’t read it well.
4. It’s capable of printing booklets and double sided. Ask the lab attendant how.

If you have any other questions about the green room, let us know!

Your line art is no good and here is why. → ihateyourstupidface.com

Good words from our very own Drew Bell!

droob:

I bet you’ve been faking it. I bet your Photoshop files are secretly a mess, and your line art layers are squishy and fuzzy.

It’s okay. This stuff can be hard. Here’s the right way to do it.

  1. Scan in full color, at 600 pixels per inch. Unless your drawing is significantly smaller than the final…
